ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR

DIVISION OF EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

West Virginia University (WVU) is seeking a full-time, tenure track (12-month) faculty member at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank in the Division of Exercise Physiology in Morgantown, WV. The successful candidate will contribute to the mission of WVU and the program in Exercise Physiology housed within the School of Medicine. Based on our faculty productivity (publications, grant funding, and national service) and educational achievements and placement of the students, the Division of Exercise Physiology has been ranked as a top 10 nationally recognized program. Exercise Physiology is looking for junior, mid-level or senior career candidates that have an interest in becoming a catalyst for developing a research program with clinical and/or basic arms in mitochondria, metabolism, or diseases associated with disrupted bioenergetics, including but not limited to diabetes mellitus, cancer, muscle wasting, and neurological disorders that complements existing faculty research expertise. Candidates with expertise in cardiac/skeletal muscle dysfunction in diabetes/obesity, or in applied neurosciences and a strong publication record using modern basic and/or translational approaches, and who have a proven track record of publications and funding with an emphasis on translational and regenerative medicine will be considered. The candidate will be expected to maintain extramural funding for her/his research. Teaching will be primarily at the graduate level.

The successful candidate will be willing to mentor graduate students and collaborate with existing faculty who have research expertise in cardiovascular pathophysiology, obesity/diabetes, skeletal muscle wasting, sensorimotor control, and stem cell therapeutics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with the Mitochondria, Metabolism & Bioenergetics (MMB) Working Group, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (http://www.wvucancer.org/research/Collaborative-Research-Initiatives) and the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (https://wvumedicine.org/rni/). This appointment is offered in accordance with the provisions of West Virginia University as described in the Faculty Handbook (http://wvufaculty.wvu.edu/r/download/139120). A competitive salary, strong startup funds, research space and equipment will be provided commensurate with experience.

Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

* PhD, preferably in fields complimentary of ones noted above
* Candidates at the Assistant level should have post-doctoral experience, and demonstrate potential to secure extramural funding.
* Candidates at the Associate level should also have a history of significant research funding and serve as PI of at least one current NIH R01 grant.
* Candidates at the Professor level will be expected to have a sustained history of NIH R01 funded research and an international reputation as a scientist.
* Appointment at the level of an Associate or Full Professor in the tenure track will require transferable extramural funding, and evidence of strong peer-reviewed publications.
* All qualifications must be met by the time of the appointment

West Virginia University is a land grant Carnegie-designated Doctoral Research/Extensive institution, with approximately 32,500 students, including 27,000 undergraduate and 5,500 graduate/professional students. The WVU Health Sciences Center includes the Schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health and Nursing. Patient care facilities include a 575-bed teaching hospital, a Level I trauma center, and a 70-bed psychiatric hospital. Morgantown is within easy traveling distance of Washington, DC, to the east, Pittsburgh, PA, to the north, and Cleveland and Columbus, OH, to the northwest.
