Job Description

West Virginia University of Technology (WVU Tech), a divisional four-year campus of West Virginia University (WVU), is currently inviting applications and nominations for the following employment opportunity: The Department of Civil Engineering within the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences seeks to hire an Assistant / Associate Professor in Civil Engineering. Position is 9-month, full-time, tenure-track, and benefits-eligible.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach basic engineering mechanics courses as well as a variety of civil engineering courses such as structural analysis, steel design, reinforced concrete design, and upper-level elective structural engineering courses. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue scholarly activities which may include research opportunities with the West Virginia Department of Highways, the Federal Highway Administration, or similar funding agencies. Other auxiliary duties include those normally associated with a faculty position in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.

Date of Appointment: January or August 2018

WVU Tech offers a broad array of programs including four-year (BS) programs in Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering; Computer Science; Information Systems; and BS degrees in Electronic Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology (Civil, Environmental, and Mechanical emphasis), and Industrial Technology.

For applicants for the rank of assistant professor:

* An undergraduate degree in civil engineering or a closely related field and a doctorate degree degree in civil engineering or a closely related field with a clear focus in structural engineering.
* One engineering degree must be from an institution having an undergraduate ABET-accredited program in civil engineering or closely related field.
* Good oral and written communications skills.
* Able to complement our practice-oriented program and show potential for excellence in teaching.
* Candidates who are approaching graduation prior to appointment date will be given full consideration, but completion of the degree must occur before the effective date of the appointment.

For applicants for the rank of associate professor:

* An undergraduate degree in civil engineering or a closely related field and a doctorate degree in civil engineering or a closely related field with a clear focus in structural engineering.
* One engineering degree must be from an institution having an undergraduate ABET-accredited program in civil engineering or closely related field.
* Good oral and written communications skills.
* Able to complement our practice-oriented program and show potential for excellence in teaching.
* A minimum of five years successful experience as a faculty member in a civil engineering program or closely related field with an outstanding record of teaching, research, and service.
