West Virginia University (WVU) and the Department of Anesthesiology in the WVU School of Medicine seek a visionary leader to serve as Chair. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity for a physician with an unwavering commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and research.

The Department of Anesthesiology provides an average 45,000 anesthetics per year. Organized sub-specialty groups include: cardiac, pediatric, chronic pain, and regional anesthesia/acute pain. WVU has the largest anesthesia practice in the state, and its only anesthesiology residency training program. A nurse anesthesia program was recently accredited to annually enroll 15 students. Our clinical workforce includes 54 faculty anesthesiologists, 29 anesthesiology residents, 88 CRNAs, and 15 SRNAs.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in the delivery of patient-centered care within a growing, integrated delivery health care system. The successful candidate will have the skills and commitment necessary to advance medical education and research and motivate department faculty and trainees in the discovery and application of state of the art knowledge. Candidates should have excellent communication skills. Administrative experience should include strategic planning, finance/budgeting, and recruitment. Experience in a multi hospital system is desirable.

Qualified applicants must be board certified in anesthesiology, have an MD, DO or foreign equivalent degree, and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. A minimum of five years of experience in an academic leadership role and an academic rank of Associate Professor or above are required. Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
