A glimpse at the job: 


The Bakeshop is where we make all of the delicious bakery and patisserie items we provide for our customers at our stores every day - from breads and rolls to cookies and pastries, it all happens here. As a member of the Sanitation team you will be responsible for ensuring production takes place in the cleanest and most sanitary environment; performing responsibilities of breaking down, cleaning and sanitizing equipment. You will serve as an invaluable liaison between Quality Assurance, Maintenance and the Bakeshop as your work ensures the most efficient operations that meet Wegmans standards of quality.

 

I will add value by:

  • Providing incredible service to employees in all areas of the Bakeshop by ensuring a clean and sanitary work environment in which to produce high quality bakery items for our stores to provide our customers
  • Cleaning and sanitizing walls, shelving racks, overhead shelves, conveyor belts and all other equipment and machinery in production rooms
  • Cleaning and sanitizing conveyor belts and other machinery and equipment after production and/ or packaging of items to prevent cross-contamination of allergens
  • Ensuring floors in all production rooms are cleaned by sweeping, mopping and using floor scrubbing equipment
  • Removing all remnants of products and/ or various ingredients in machines and surrounding areas using the appropriate instruments and techniques
  • Working around production taking place, emptying garbage as needed and performing all necessary cleaning and sanitation between production lines
  • Taking apart smaller machines and equipment to ensure thorough cleaning and sanitation takes place after the day’s production, being sure to put the equipment back together after cleaning
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with team members and supervisors, as well as the Bakeshop Maintenance team and Quality Assurance team; being sure to report any issues or concerns with machinery, equipment, etc.
  • Following all Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) when performing duties in each of the Bakeshop production areas
  • Properly handling all machinery, equipment, chemicals and products in accordance with food and human safety guidelines

What will set me apart from other candidates:

  • Experience working in a Store Maintenance or Utility Prep position
  • Experience using various hand tools
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing facility


Work environment: 

  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet as work typically includes prolonged standing and walking in fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, crouching and kneeling
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 10 – 20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of greater than 50 pounds
  • May be exposed to various allergens
  • Work takes place indoors near hot equipment and requires the safe and proper handling of cleaning equipment and supplies, including chemicals and hand tools
