What is my job:

 

The Restaurant Area offered at select Wegmans stores allows guests to experience a one-of-a-kind, dynamic dining experience.  As the Restaurant Team Leader you will work closely with employees and be empowered to provide incredible guest service and an engaging dining experience through creating an exciting atmosphere and providing the tools, resources and support for service staff to grow their skills, passion and knowledge.

Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Customer Service

  • Work with team members and lead them by example to serve customers in a courteous, attentive and efficient manner; provide a positive dining experience, incredible service and a reason to return
  • Act as the face to customers; engage them about the culinary and beverage offerings in a manner that creates interest and enthusiasm; using passion and knowledge of offerings
  • Perform a variety of tasks as needed to support the day-to-day needs of the business

Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients

  • Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of food quality and food safety in departments; ensuring the food presented to customers is prepared according to Wegmans recipes and standards, and team members are following food safety and safety guidelines while performing tasks
  • Possess an exceptional level of detail to ensure restaurant areas are clean, organized and well-stocked with all necessary supplies

 

Continuously Improving Results

  • Maintain a strong focus on the dining room area and private dining areas; ensure the planning, organization and execution of events takes places efficiently and effectively
  • Work to ensure the most efficient and effective operations in the restaurant area by performing tasks such as ordering with Simplification practices in mind, scheduling and managing payroll
  • Maintain two-way communication with team members and restaurant management to ensure smooth running department operations

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Ability to balance providing incredible service with ensuring laws and policies (i.e. 100% proofing policy for the sale of alcohol) are strictly adhered to
  • Developing others by providing encouragement to folks to take on tasks that challenge them and align with their personal career goals while holding frequent development discussions using performance and career development tools to coach employees who need help and further development
  • Demonstrating an ability to manage others by working with employees to set and achieve goals, rewarding performance while exercising courage when providing honest, timely, and actionable feedback
  • Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department
  • Work towards continuous improvement to encourage change; find ways to increase profitability and productivity; and improve processes, products & customer service in the department(s)
  • Use data analysis, wisdom, experience, judgment, and past actions as well as input from other sources for decision making, always considering the impact on customers, sales and contribution (profit)
  • Practice proper planning and staffing techniques which include managing time and resources
  • Maintain a safety focus by ensuring safety standards are followed, teaching safety practices to employees, looking for ways to improve safety, solving safety problems, and looking for ways to exceed safety standards and reduce risk potential
  • Practice proper ordering techniques to complete orders by deadlines and participate in inventory process to ensure items are available to support merchandising programs and product promotions
  • Exhibit merchandising skills by attractively displaying products considering seasonality, cross-merchandising opportunities and corporate programs with the aim of educating and enticing customers
  • Assist with meal preparation and planning by providing customers with proper serving guidelines and recommending correct cooking techniques, helping to make great meals easy

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?

  • Team Leader experience in a Prepared Foods area, or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience working as a server, bartender, or other service-oriented position in a multi-faceted food service facility, including restaurant, hotel, country club, conference center, casino, theme park, etc.
  • Customer service experience in a Perishable department or equivalent experience in an area requiring knowledge-based selling of products

Work environment: 

  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 5 – 20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments, including temperature changes
  • Tasks will be performed using and in the proximity of coolers, ovens, stoves and other hot equipment; cooking and kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
