If you have a passion for working with food and are looking for a position to develop your skills and talents, then a Sushi Roller team member could be the role for you! In this position, you’ll educate our customers about the exceptional ingredients and products we offer as well as provide great tasting sushi. You’ll ensure products are available for customers to enjoy throughout the day – and receive it with the incredible service Wegmans prides itself on.

I will add value by:

  • Providing incredible customer service by proactively approaching customers at the counter, weighing and packaging prepared items as requested, answering questions about products, offering suggestions for complete meal solutions and responding with a sense of urgency
  • Assisting team members by setting up and maintaining Prepared Foods stations; ensuring products are well-merchandised, signs are properly displayed, product levels are maintained throughout the day, and supplies are set up to quickly and efficiently perform tasks and provide incredible customer service
  • Following Wegmans Guiding Principles and department job aides to consistently prepare quality products that meets Wegmans standards, being sure to properly pull and record shrink throughout the day to ensure the freshest products are available for customers
  • Utilizing resources to gain an understanding of products and practices and increase knowledge; particularly regarding Menu magazine featured items and themes, connecting with team leaders and department managers to recognize how featured items and themes tie in to the department
  • Performing closing procedures in the department, including cleaning stations, storing prepared food to maintain freshness & quality and leaving the department ready for tasks to take place efficiently the next morning 
  • Properly handling products, using equipment and keeping accurate logs in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines


What abilities I must bring to the table to be considered:

  • Experience working in retail/food service setting
  • Providing incredible customer service, greeting customers and answering questions in a friendly manner, proactively offering assistance and providing accurate and timely information, making product/ service recommendations and accommodating special requests
  • Possessing teamwork and diversity awareness by listening to others' points of view and recognizing and appreciating differences
  • Ensuring food and human safety practices are strictly adhered to
  • Possessing organizational skills, prioritizing requests and department activities while managing interruptions and attending to details to complete tasks within deadlines
  • Possessing knowledge of products used throughout the store and works across departments to provide knowledge based service to assist customers in finding complete meal solutions


What will set me apart from other candidates:

  • Experience working as a Sushi cook
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts
  • Customer service experience preferably in a food service, restaurant, grocery or retail setting
  • Possess culinary knife skills which include safely using knives; sharpening and honing the edges of knives; and using them to chop, dice, julienne, slice and mince
  • Demonstrated ability following food safety guidelines including; properly receiving products and maintaining food safety logs
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions including; recipes, detailed procedures, and task lists when necessary
  • Recognizing and seeking opportunities for continuous learning to gain new understandings, skills and knowledge
  • Utilizing resources to educate self and others about product uses and characteristics, being sure to share acquired product knowledge

Work environment:

  • Continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, reaching and frequent lifting of an average of 5 – 20 pounds
  • Work requires the safe and proper handling of cooking utensils and kitchen equipment
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments,
  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
