If you love the smell of fresh cut flowers and have a passion for working with floral products, creating beautiful bouquets for customer needs, then a Floral Team Leader position could be for you. In this role, you’ll oversee the department operations and will be responsible for ensuring customers have access to their favorite floral selections and a team of employees armed with the skills and knowledge needed to create arrangements for whatever their needs may be.

I will add value by:

·         Performing tasks essential to the proper functioning of the department including ordering with Simplification practices in mind, hiring & staffing, training & development, scheduling and managing payroll

  • Leading employees by example to provide incredible customer service by proactively approaching customers, offering floral suggestions and recommendations suited to their needs, answering any questions about products and ensuring they have the knowledge to properly care for their purchases at home
  • Creating floral arrangements for display in the department, for special orders and to be used in departments throughout the store as well as for store events
  • Utilizing waste and extra product by creating innovative floral arrangements and displays to drive sales and reduce the amount of shrink in the department
  • Using knowledge of floral trends and seasonal and holiday influences to accurately forecast needs and adjust orders, being sure there is enough products to meet customer needs
  • Maintaining the freshest, high quality flowers throughout the department; understanding the perishable nature of the product and reacting with a sense of urgency to minimize shrink, promote sales and create ways to move product
  • Maintaining the overall appearance of the department, ensuring arrangements are innovatively designed in a variety of sizes, styles and price ranges; and products are well-merchandised to showcase quality
  • Delegating tasks to team members and empowering them to take on new challenges, being certain to provide timely feedback and annual performance reviews that focus on their growth and professional development
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with team members and Produce Manager to ensure smooth department operations
  • Educating and ensuring team members are properly handling products and using equipment in accordance with safety guidelines, understanding the fragile nature of flowers and plants
What abilities I must bring to the table to be considered:
  • Customer service experience, preferably in a florist, food service, grocery or retail setting

  • Use performance and career development tools to manage and develop others, working with employees to set and achieve individual and department goals
  • Practice proper planningandstaffing techniques which include managing time and resources
  • Work towards continuous improvement to encourage change; find ways to increase profitability and productivity; and improve processes, products & customer service in the department(s)
  • Use data analysis, wisdom, experience, judgment, and past actions as well as input from other sources for decision making, always considering the impact on customers, sales and contribution (profit)
  • Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department
  • Ability to multi-task and react to a variety of situations at one time
  • Practice proper ordering techniques to complete orders by deadlines and participate in inventory process to ensure items are available to support merchandising programs and product promotions
  • Exhibit merchandising skills by attractively displaying products considering seasonality, cross-merchandising opportunities and corporate programs with the aim of educating and enticing customers

  • Managerial/ supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of, passion for and experience working with various flowers
  • Floral arrangement/ design experience
Work environment:
  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 1 – 10 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds occasionally
  • May be exposed to various allergens and cold temperatures
  • Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
