Job Description

What is my job:

This position provides advanced technical and creative support to project teams. They manage highly complex design projects, resulting in finalized specifications and construction documents for construction of new food markets. This position is responsible for the overall management of individual food market (new and expansion) projects, and will provide project leadership through all phases of planning, design, construction and implementation of deliverables They oversee the preparation of store plans, major equipment selection and placement, development of all interior design components, including lighting, equipment, millwork fixtures and finishes, and detailing.

  • Provide direction, communication and leadership to others to ensure the work is aligned and goals are achieved
  • Monitor progress throughout life of the project, ensuring projects are on time and within budget
  • Select people with a variety of skills and styles for inclusion on the team
  • Develop, coach and mentor employees; provide employees with feedback and recognition that is fair, accurate and helps them continuously improve
  • Evaluate, select and apply standard design techniques and procedures, while using judgment to make minor adaptations and modifications to existing designs
  • Educate and advise others in the organization of area of subject matter expertise
  • Facilitate sharing of preferred methods and lessons learned and initiates continuous improvements
  • Contribute to the creation and modification of standards of practice for the department; provide technical review and quality checks of construction documents
  • Establish, implement and maintain appropriate controls related to expense management; make budgetary decisions that are fiscally responsible
  • Perform field inspections, research, measurements or calculations as needed
  • Coordinate team plans and communicate results with other relevant teams
  • Represent projects in presentations to senior management when needed
  • Work with Operations and Merchandising in the selection of fixtures and equipment to meet the requirements for food safety, flexibility, codes and installation
  • Apply diversified knowledge of architectural principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments; lead the team in researching and resolving technical issues, new concepts and quality matters

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture
  • 10 or more years’ experience in related field
  • 5 or more years’ experience in architectural project management
  • Strong computer skills including experience with CAD software and Microsoft Office
  • Strong rendering skills, including proficiency communicating designs with freehand sketches
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain professional licensure in Architecture

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart? 

  • Advanced or Master’s Degree in Architecture
  • Professional licensure or certification in related field
  • Large-scale project management experience
  • Building Information Modeling experience, including the use of Revit
  • Experience in managing retail and/or food oriented projects

Work environment: 

  • Work includes sitting for prolonged periods, repetitive hand and arm movements, frequent to constant use of the computer, frequent use of the telephone, along with continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Travel to job sites, competition, and municipal agencies, as well as attendance at trade shows/conferences is required.  Occasional overnight out of town travel is required
