Days Hours Req: Full Time applicants are required to have an open availability Sunday-Saturday, between the primary operating hours of 6am-Midnight, unless specified for a position/department. The Chantilly store will be open 6am-midnight, 7 days a week.

When Wegmans customers get a craving for a sub filled with the most delicious ingredients piled atop freshly baked bread, they know to look no farther than our Old Fashioned Sub Shop. As a manager in this area, you’ll be given the opportunity to develop the skills and passion of team members and manage a small sub shop within a larger store setting. You’ll share your own passion for food and knowledge of the industry to ensure customers are receiving the freshest items just as they ordered – and receive it with the incredible service Wegmans prides itself on.

I will add value by:

  • Overseeing and being held accountable for the entire operations of the Sub Shop, including ordering with Simplification practices in mind, hiring & staffing, training & development, scheduling, managing payroll & business flow and ensuring departments are operating profitably

  • Leading employees by example to provide incredible customer service, proactively approaching customers, preparing orders as requested and answering any questions they have about products or programs offered

  • Delegating tasks to team members and empowering them to take on new challenges, being certain to provide timely feedback and annual performance reviews that focus on their growth and professional development

  • Forecasting department needs to accurately make production lists and prioritize tasks for employees who include bakers, slicers, utility prep people and other team members

  • Educating and training employees on the proper ways to perform tasks that include accurately assembling subs according to department job aides; the process for baking rolls and cookies; slicing bread, meats, cheeses and vegetables; cooking meatballs and chicken strips; preparing and packaging salads; etc.

  • Following Wegmans core recipes and job aides when preparing all orders and products in the department to ensure a consistent outcome in line with Wegmans standards of quality, overseeing team members and correcting any errors

  • Maintaining open lines of communication with team members, Executive/ Store Chef, Prepared Foods/ Café Manager and other Prepared Foods departments to ensure the most efficient operations

  • Educating and ensuring team members are properly handling products, using equipment and keeping accurate logs in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines

Qualifications

  • Customer service experience, preferably in a food service, grocery or retail setting

  • Control inventory levels and expenses such as payroll and shrink to impact bottom-line contribution (profit) for the department
  • Ability to multi-task and react to a variety of situations at one time
  • Practice proper ordering techniques to complete orders by deadlines and participate in inventory process to ensure items are available to support merchandising programs and product promotions
  • Exhibit merchandising skills by attractively displaying products considering seasonality, cross-merchandising opportunities and corporate programs with the aim of educating and enticing customers
  • Assist with meal preparation and planning by providing customers with proper serving guidelines and recommending correct cooking techniques, helping to make great meals easy

Work environment:
  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, reaching and lifting
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 5 – 15 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely
  • May be exposed to various allergens and work environments, including temperature changes
  • Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
