At Wegmans, we see our Pharmacy as much more than a place where customers come to get prescriptions filled. Our customers have come to depend on our Pharmacists to provide the best service possible when it comes to something as important as their health. In the role of a Wegmans Pharmacy Area Manager, you will be given the opportunity to oversee the entire operations of the Pharmacy department and will be responsible for everything from setting and achieving department goals to managing a team of pharmacists, team leaders and technicians. You’ll use your strong managerial skills and passion for helping others to offer customers a unique and personal pharmacy experience.

Note to Applicant: Candidates must be open to multiple store locations in New Jersey. Candidates must have a flexible availability including nights, days and weekends. Occasional travel within the division may be required.

How do I make a difference?

  • Ensuring the focus of the department remains on providing incredible service, communicating expectations to employees and holding them accountable for the service they provide to ensure customers receive error-free products that meet Wegmans standards of quality (handling urgent cases where appropriate)
  • Overseeing all operations of the Pharmacy including functions essential to the successful day-to-day operations of the department including overseeing required tracking, paperwork (projections, payroll), workflow, ordering, scheduling, employee training, prompt resolution of issues, etc. 
  • Leading team on building contribution and meeting goals for factors including gross margin, shrink, generic utilization, labor, inventory and customer service; educating them on the importance of setting achievable goals and monitoring progress
  • Managing workflow and product dispensing, assisting as necessary and ensuring employees are utilizing preferred methods; partnering with other members of management to evaluate workflow practices and identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • Providing the resources, information and tools employees need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively; ensuring certification in required training occurs and working with other members of store and department management to identify talent and provide opportunities for employees’ continuous improvement
  • Ensuring all employees are given the opportunity to discuss and set goals by completing performance reviews and evaluations, and providing ongoing timely feedback focused on their growth and professional development
  • Partnering with Store Manager and Employee Representative to interview, select and successfully onboard new employees; ensuring all new and existing employees are lead by management example, and are empowered and encouraged to exceed customer expectations and provide incredible knowledge based service
  • Partnering with Store Manager and other Area Managers to champion company initiatives in the department and throughout the store; working cross-functionally to incorporate programs in the Pharmacy and vice verse. 
  • Positively leading and managing employees through change; including 3rd party changes in processes and practices,  to ensure success; utilizing corporate resources  to communicate pertinent information across channels 
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with store management to ensure they remain connected and involved in the department by sharing important pharmacy learnings, information and department communications
  • Developing a deep knowledge of pharmacy systems and operations to ensure maximization of performance and problem-solving abilities; ensuring employees are properly utilizing available systems and tools to best meet customers’ needs
  • Taking steps to continuously educate self about products and business trends and analyzing these along with customer trends, market data and financial reports to increase profitability and help provide incredible customer service 
  • Organizing department meetings on a regular basis to communicate store, pharmacy and company information, ensuring initiatives are implemented with total involvement, and excellent follow-through and feedback

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?


  • Must be state licensed pharmacist
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and other Windows based software
  • Actively communicate the company vision and values to all and ensure work is completed in line with the organization's priorities and goals (integrates Who We Are & What We Do)
  • Conduct accurate cost benefit analysis in order to invest where most the value is added

  • Experience with risk evaluation: proactively identifying areas of potential risk exposure, thoroughly analyzing the situation to ensure the financial investment of a solution makes sense and implementing cost-effective controls to mitigate risk


What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart? 

  • Managerial/supervisory experience including but not limited to, interviewing, selection, disciplinary action, employee development and managing financials 
  • Pharmacy management experience, preferably in a retail setting 
  • Department management experience as well as, experience in a Front End supervisory role (minimum Service Team Leader experience)

Work environment: 

  • Work includes frequent use of a computer and telephone, along with continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment.
  • The average weight range of items lifted is 1–10 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 35 pounds rarely.
