What is my job:

Our Bakery department bakes and serves delicious breads, doughnuts, cakes, and other sweet treats throughout the day. In this department, you’ll work with a team to ensure the freshest bakery items are available for our customers.  If you have a passion for baking and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, then this could be the role for you!

How do I make a difference?

Providing Incredible, Knowledge Based Customer Service

  • Proactively approach customers to educate them about products, answer questions, help them locate items and offer suggestions to complete their meals
  • Produce artisan breads from scratch while slicing, packaging and labeling bakery items and maintaining product levels in eye-appealing displays
  • Ensuring High Quality Products & Ingredients

    • Oversee and delegate tasks to a small group of bakery employees to maximize efficiency
    • Rotate products to ensure freshness, pulling and recording shrink on a daily basis
    • Follow production lists when prioritizing and completing tasks, prepare all items at the correct times throughout the day to ensure a consistent outcome in line with Wegmans standards of quality
    • Properly handle products, use equipment, keep accurate logs and follow sanitation practices in accordance with food and human safety guidelines, and Simplification 5S procedures

What skills, learnings, and experiences are required?

  • Understanding of yeast biology, recipes and formulas as well as how environmental factors may affect ingredients

  • Learn, use and be able to explain Wegmans sanctioned cooking techniques to assist customers for their success at home
  • Able to problem solve, anticipating, analyzing, and identifying problems, responding quickly when situations arise and preventing problems when possible

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart? 

  • Customer service experience, preferably in a food service, grocery or retail setting
  • Experience baking, following recipes and working in a bakery with dough made from scratch
  • An understanding of different flours and ingredients used when bread baking 
  • Strong organizational, mathematical and time management skills

Work environment: 

  • Work involves continuous interaction with customers and co-works in a fast-paced environment
  • Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 5-20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds occasionally
  • Work involves exposure to various work environments, including cold, freezing & hot temperatures
  • May be exposed to various allergens
  • Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand or walk without a break for up to 4 hours
