Bakeshop Sanitation Team Member

What is my job: 

The job of the Bakeshop Sanitation Team Member is to provide incredible service to employees and be a champion of good sanitation practices in all areas of the Bakeshop by cleaning and sanitizing the environment in which we produce high quality bakery items for our stores to provide our customers.

How do I make a difference?

• Cleaning and sanitizing walls, shelving racks, overhead shelves, conveyor belts and all other equipment and machinery in production rooms
• Cleaning and sanitizing conveyor belts and other machinery and equipment after production and/ or packaging of items to prevent cross-contamination of allergens
• Ensuring floors in all production rooms are cleaned by sweeping, mopping and using floor scrubbing equipment
• Removing all remnants of products and/ or various ingredients in machines and surrounding areas using the appropriate instruments and techniques
• Thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing production equipment after the days production including disassembling and reassembling equipment to ensure highest cleanliness
• Working around production taking place, emptying garbage as needed and performing all necessary cleaning and sanitation between production lines
• Using motorized equipment such as a pallet jack, forklift, or scissors lift with appropriate training
• Maintaining open lines of communication with team members and supervisors, as well as the Bakeshop Maintenance team and Quality Assurance team; being sure to report any issues or concerns with machinery, equipment, etc.
• Following all Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s) when performing duties in each of the Bakeshop production areas
• Learning the fundamentals of food safety as it relates to sanitation in a food manufacturing environment Working around production taking place, emptying garbage as needed and performing all necessary cleaning and sanitation between production lines
• Properly handling all machinery, equipment, chemicals and products in accordance with food and human safety guidelines
• Following Good Manufacturing Practices in the workplace as well as other applicable guidelines including work instructions, job aids and HACCP requirements
• Providing incredible service to employees and be a champion of good sanitation practices in all areas of the Bakeshop by ensuring a clean and sanitary work environment in which to produce high quality bakery items for our stores to provide our customers
• Completing all tasks efficiently while strictly adhering to food and human safety guidelines and maintaining Wegmans’ high standards of quality at all times

What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart?

 

• Experience using a variety of hand tools
• Previous experience working in a manufacturing facility, preferably within  the food manufacturing industry
• Store operations experience as a maintenance customer service team member or utility prep
• Inform others using various communication tools to provide meaningful, accurate information people need to make decisions
• Relate well to others using interpersonal savvy to foster two-way communication and develop effective relationships; recognize differences in communication styles and maintain composure
• Possess data entry skills and can easily navigate between computer screens, interpret and input information correctly utilizing proper keyboard techniques, treating company and other sensitive material with professionalism and confidentiality

Work environment: 

 

Will be required to spend the majority of time on his or her feet as work typically includes prolonged standing and walking in a fast-paced environment.  Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, crouching and kneeling.  Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 10-20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of greater than 50 pounds.  May be exposed to various allergens.  Work takes place indoors near hot equipment and requires the safe and proper handling of cleaning equipment and supplies, including chemicals and hand tool
