Job Description

TITLE: Elementary Intervention Specialist

I. QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate/License is required. A Master's degree in Reading is preferred.

II. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Intervention Specialist will support the District's instructional programs by assessing the academic deficiencies of the students, planning and delivering remediation in literacy and mathematics, implementing individual student improvement plans and consulting with classroom teachers as necessary.

III. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Follows program guidelines as outlined under ESEA/ESSA Title I regulations.
* Provides direct assistance to the Intervention and Referral Services Team.
* Acts as a resource to classroom teachers and the principal, by directly and indirectly providing strategies and suggestions for supplemental instruction and alternative methodologies.
* Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of student.
* Provides support and utilizes strategies with students who are underachieving in the areas of math and language arts.
* Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
* Maintains accurate and complete records.
* Employs a variety of instructional techniques to guide the academic achievement and goals of each student.
* Provides individual, small and/or large group instruction, whenever appropriate, to adapt the curriculum to the individual needs of pupils.
* Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction.
* Utilizes assessment data in literacy and math to identify students' needs and plan appropriate academic interventions.
* Communicates with parents and staff on pupil progress and development.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

ANNUAL EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with New Jersey State law and the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of certified staff, which includes specified performance standards in the evaluation model approved by the Board of Education.
