About Warren County Technical School

The Warren County Special Services School District takes on a leadership role in organizing the Annual County Wide In-service Program for educators. Through this venture, we strive to support the continuing education that our teachers, therapists, and aides need to develop and maintain a wide base of knowledge relative to the Core Curriculum Content Standards and the associated teaching techniques and strategies that ensure student mastery of these concepts. Our school district recognizes the potential benefits of utilizing modern technology within our classrooms. Computers and the Internet are widely used by the students throughout the district. Creative projects using computer graphics are often integrated into the curriculum. In addition, we promote the use of various forms of assistive technology such as electronic communication and adaptive computer software and devices. Our district has an active Parent-Staff Organization. The PSO is designed to afford our parents and staff the opportunity to collaborate on issues of mutual interest relating to the students in the district. The PSO organizes activities that serve to improve the quality and scope of services provided by the district. Special event days, social activities, and classroom donations have all been supported by PSO fund raising initiatives. An important focus of our class programs is on community involvement. To this end, we have several vans for use by our staff in transporting students to job training sites, field trips and special activities such as swimming, special olympics, math fairs, etc. Our school district completed the alignment of each curriculum area with the 1996 NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards. With the recent state revision of language arts literacy, mathematics and science standards in 2002, the district curriculum committee will begin aligning curriculum in these areas to the new standards during the 2003-04 school year. In addition, we continue to seek out and provide staff development in order to assist teachers to modify instruction in order to address all standards. The district is committed to providing every student with the opportunity to meet each standard. In recognition of the many individuals and organizations that contribute to the success of our district, we plan to host our third annual Friends of Warren County Special Services School District Open House this spring. This event, which is held at our county technical school, brings together many of the people and organizations who provide resources, talents, input, etc. to improve the quality of our programs throughout the school year. We are constantly striving to respond to the needs of our constituent school districts. We are currently developing an outdoor education program for students with disabilities as well as an alternative education program. We continue to strive to provide high quality, regionalized special education programs and services for children with disabilities. Given the continued availability of classroom spaces in local public schools, which are becoming increasingly more difficult to locate at the secondary level, we will continue to embrace our mission of educating students with lower incidence disabilities in the public schools. Anyone desiring further information regarding any facet of the school district should contact our office. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
