The Assistant Controller role is a senior member of the financial leadership team reporting to the Corporate Controller and is based in Washington, DC. Travel to the Company's New York, NY office 1-2 times per quarter is required for this role. The ideal candidate will be ready to join a fast-paced environment, lead change, and be excited to build scalable, controlled processes.

What you'll do:

* Manage the timely execution of accounting closing activities, including ensuring that work papers and account reconciliations are completed timely and prepared in accordance with US GAAP
* Ensure balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely and reconciling items are resolved
* Provide a high level of thought process to recommend areas of improvement and lead projects to enhance accounting infrastructure, process efficiency and systems to scale as the business grows
* Manage the processes and teams responsible for monthly GAAP closing, corporate consolidation, and financial reporting
* Oversee the team, processes, and systems supporting operational accounting areas (Accounts Payable (A/P), Freelancer, Payroll and Travel)
* Oversee the proper accounting treatment for non-routine transactions and areas with evolving complexity such as lease accounting, internal developed software capitalization, and purchase accounting
* Oversee the cash management for the company including managing day to day operating cash, forecasting, and purchasing card program
* Identify and build core competencies and assist career development of team through skill development, training and exposure to new functional areas
* Establish and maintain effective internal financial controls
* Oversee the annual audit and GAAP financial statement preparation processes
* Support international statutory financial reporting requirements and audits as needed
* Cultivate and maintain effective relationships within team and across departments
* Work closely and collaboratively with other members of finance to assist with expense forecast and variance explanations
* Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in written communication
* Manage finance due diligence for potential acquisitions, outlining key accounting issues related to acquisition targets and managing integrations of any acquired companies
* Exhibit flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments as needed

What you'll bring:

* Bachelor Degree (BA/BS) with a concentration in Accounting
* Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in a complex accounting environment including a minimum of four years directly managing an accounting team
* CPA certification
* Experience managing corporate close and financial reporting at a publicly traded or private equity owned company
* Experience accounting for multiple domestic and international subsidiaries
* Experience with financial system conversions and/or implementations
* Strong IT application skills - Expert level Excel including extensive experience with pivot tables and VLOOKUPs
* Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with all levels within an organization
* Self-motivation and desire to continually improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of processes
* Proficient in FinancialForce, Netsuite, or similar ERP
