Job Description

The Cloud Platform organization is responsible for vSphere, our Core Virtualization Infrastructure, and Solutions for Enterprise Virtualization. The Core Graphics group is part of our Cloud Platform R&D team, responsible for the vSphere and vCenter suite of products.

We are seeking a new graduate software engineer to be a part of our Core Graphics group. The Core Graphics Group is responsible for making the 2D, video and 3D experience inside a virtual machine as good as native. We work on the latest industry standard 3D API's for all of VMware's products. We work on delivering the best local and remote experience possible for virtualization users.

The Core Graphics team will challenge your skills at all levels in the software stack. Write userspace code which emulates real hardware. Design paravirtualized hardware interfaces for maximum video and I/O performance. Write video drivers, kernel modules, binary translators for all the latest DirectX and OpenGL shaders. Get your hands dirty with the lowest and the highest levels of Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Challenge your knowledge of 2D acceleration architectures, and video emulation. Build hardware that tests software, or software that thinks it's hardware.

Performance Objectives:

* Design and development of VMware's device virtualization infrastructure
* Analyze and re-architect performance critical sections of the device virtualization code
* Investigate and fix problems found in the device subsystem
* Create advanced tools for the end user and developer that leverage the advantages of working inside a VM

Competencies/Leadership Functions:

* Should be proficient in the C programming language
* Must have Linux, Windows, and/or Mac OS systems experience
* Ability to design software systems
* Strong debugging and performance analysis
* Understanding of graphics API's (OpenGL, DirectX, X11, GDI)

Desired Skills:

* Knowledge of virtualization technologies
