Job Description

VCU Health System's Respiratory Care Services is seeking a full time Respiratory Therapist 1 to provide safe and effective respiratory care as a Respiratory Therapist for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations in accordance with discipline training, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and hospital standards and protocols. To serve as a respiratory care educator for patients, caregivers, hospital staff and students.


Cardiopulmonary assessment and monitoring, including during emergency response? Airway care? selecting appropriate ventilators and non-ordered ventilator parameters? consulting with physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding the appropriateness of the patient care plan? and maintaining work areas in a clean and well stocked manner.

Depending on work assignment, may be required to rotate shifts, work on weekends and holidays, and take on -call.



Education, training and/or experience that has satisfied the eligibility requirements for the National Board for Respiratory Care (or its predecessor organizations)

Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Care Practitioner

Current certification or registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Current CPR certification as required by practice setting

Current NRP certification as required by practice setting

New graduate to two (2) years of work experience as a Respiratory Therapist


Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program

Current related credentials from the NBRC or National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB)

Current ACLS and/or PALS

One (1) year of work experience functioning as a Respiratory Therapist

Previous affiliation or work experience in a similar practice setting
