Intern, Residence Time Distribution Analyst

Job Description

Residence time distribution (RTD) is an indicator of how long it takes for a package of material to be processed through each unit of operation. RTD experiment is typically measured by adding a package of dye into the unit ops. When the dye is added it mixes with the powder inside the system and leaves the equipment at different levels of dye. The concentration of dye is used to generate the RTD. What we have found is that mixing the raw material and the dye, even as low as 5%, by weight can cause a significant change in the flowability and the bulk density of the powder. This project aims to investigate the impact of these changes on the RTD measured on different equipment used during manufacturing. The purpose of this internship is to investigate the effects of the dye level of the find RTD of the equipment. The intern will be working with various types of equipment to measure the RTD at different mass flow rates.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will be responsible for executing the experimental plan, operate different formulation processing equipment, and perform data analysis. There are three different types of equipment currently being tested:

* Blender
* Roller compactor
* Mill

The intern will spend 2-3 weeks on each equipment to generate data.

Qualification:

* Engineering or equivalent science degree

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous work on processing equipment is a plus
* Hands-on approach to experiment
* 3.2 GPA Preferred
