* Vertex Biometrics department is offering summer internship to current graduate students who seek the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. Not only will interns learn about their day-to-day tasks through their specific work assignments, but they will interact and have exposure to our organizational leaders and their teams through a series of Professional Development Workshops.

The summer intern will work closely with multiple experienced statisticians on research project(s) about surrogate endpoint validation closely related to drug development and clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities:

* Review and summarize literature of existing statistical methodologies on short-term surrogate endpoint validation for long-term clinical outcomes including continuous, binary and survival outcome
* Evaluate existing methodologies by conducting simulation studies
* Apply existing methods or develop new methods if needed to address the questions from clinical projects
* Develop R function/package (or possibly an R shiny app)
* Present the research work at the departmental seminar, and additionally, may have the opportunity to summarize the work in a peer-reviewed publication

Minimum Qualifications:

* Currently enrolled (and continuing in Fall 2020) Ph.D. student in statistics or biostatistics, who has completed at least 2 years of graduate study prior to the start of the internship
* Be highly-motivated and have an excellent work ethic
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Proficient in R, SAS or other programming languages to perform simulation

* Related research experience
