The Speech Pathologist position is in the Audiology & Speech Pathology-Language section of the Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and Extended Care Services at the Spokane Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the service. The Speech-Language Pathologist conducts and coordinates all aspects of diagnostic assessments and evaluations and therapeutic and rehabilitative services for speech, language, voice, fluency, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. The speech-language pathologist demonstrates professional knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range of theories, principles, and methodologies of the practice of

speech-language pathology to a wide range of populations.

Duties include:

-Conduct, plan, and coordinate all clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services associated with contemporary speech-language pathology practice to young adults (18-40 years), middle adult (41-64 years), and older adult (65+ years) Veterans.

-Assess and evaluate cases referred to Speech-Language Pathology.

-Plan, conduct, coordinate, and monitor the effectiveness and clinical outcomes of patient-centered treatment and rehabilitative services to maximize and restore to the greatest extent possible physical and social functioning.

-Administer a full range of tests of speech, language, voice, fluency, and cognition.

-Provide patient and family education relating to each patient's functional strengths and weaknesses in areas of cognitive, speech, voice, communication & swallowing abilities.
