Job Description

This Assistant Attorney General position is a senior level position with at least seven years of civil litigation experience in state and federal courts, with 10 years experience preferred. Incumbents must practice law as an active member of the Utah State Bar in good standing.

The Assistant Attorney General will represent the State of Utah's Constitutional Officers and high level boards and commissions of the State. Working knowledge of state and federal constitutional law required. Experience litigating constitutional issues is preferred. Must be able to respond to legal challenges to state law and the decisions of Constitutional Officers. Experience in election law and Indian law preferred. Knowledge of tax and bond law helpful. Must have excellent research and writing skills and be a persuasive oral advocate. Ability to mentor others and supervise legal work considered important. Successful candidate must be available to shadow incumbent. Travel is required as incumbents will need to represent their client agencies in civil litigation and other legal proceedings throughout the State.
