Postdoctoral Opportunity in HIV Gene Regulation and Latency

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Iván D'Orso in the Department of Microbiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The D'Orso laboratory works at the cutting-edge of gene regulation networks in the context of normal and disease states, investigating cell signaling and transcriptional regulatory programs to illuminate the function of HIV gene regulatory mechanisms during infection and latency, as well as the role of HIV integration site placement on proviral transcription and fate. Our laboratory has made major contributions to our understanding of the regulation and functions of transcription elongation complexes and non-coding RNAs in normal physiology and in the context of HIV infection and latency. We employ a wide array of approaches to study this biomedical research problem including molecular, biochemical, pharmacological, and genomics. We are seeking for candidates that can apply experimental and computational approaches to interrogate how the HIV program is normally regulated, how its malfunction can lead to the establishment and maintenance of latency, and how these processes can be therapeutically manipulated in patients using small compounds. Dr. D'Orso has an excellent track of mentoring highly successful undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral
trainees and is committed to the career development of all laboratory members.

Education, training, experience:

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree and be recent graduate, not having held an earlier postdoctoral position for more than about two years. Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, chromatin biology and epigenetics leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals is recommended.
