Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes work that involves 1) coordinate the work of a scientific laboratory to meet objectives and budget; 2) direct and advise subordinates in the fields of biology, chemistry, toxicology, and pharmacology; 3) evaluate work in order to recommend improvements to efficiency/accuracy; 4) coordinate personnel between program areas to ensure optimal results.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience listed above you must also meet the basic requirement for these series, as follows:

Basic Requirement General Physical Scientist

1301-General Physical Science Series: Bachelor's (or higher) degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics, OR a combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (NOTE: You must provide college transcripts to support educational claims)

Basic Requirement Biologist

0401 - Biology Series: Bachelor's (or higher) degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (NOTE: You must provide college transcripts to support educational claims)

Basic Requirement Toxicology

0415 - Toxicology Series: A four year curriculum leading to a Bachelor's (or higher) degree in toxicology, OR a degree in an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology, OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (NOTE: You must provide college transcripts to support educational claims)

Basic Requirement Chemist

1320 - Chemist Series: Bachelor's (or higher) degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, OR a combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
