Job Description

Position SummaryCoastal Pharmacy is seeking a PRN Certified Pharmacy Technician for our Daphne office. The Pharmacy hours are M-F 8-4 and this position is for 2-3 days a week as needed. Only technicians currently certified in the state of Alabama with minimum 3 years retail experience will be reviewed. The official job description is below.


Under the supervision of a pharmacist, provide dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients. This includes technical aspects of oral medication dispensing, record keeping and inventory control as well as helping with financial assistance.


Verifies patient demographics, insurance information and prescription information.

* Processes prescription and bills insurance for payment.
* Coordinates the submission of prior authorizations.
* Coordinates completion of applications for financial assistance through cancer foundations and co-pay assistance for high dollar oral drugs.
* Labels prescriptions and ensures they are checked correctly by pharmacist on duty.
* Obtains patient's signature on all medications being dispensed.
* File and store prescriptions.
* File and maintain daily reports.
* Documents all interactions with the patient in the pharmacy record.
* Assists pharmacist with inventory management, including inventory receiving and shelving.
* Coordinates refills by completion of patient calls.
* Verifies patient shipping information and coordinates delivery of medications requiring signature.
* Troubleshoots insurance rejections or denials.
* Requests refills from providers via the clinic EMR.
* Creates dosing calendars for patient reference regarding administration of oral agents.


High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum three to five years of experience in a retail pharmacy setting. Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate preferred. State Pharmacy Board registration required. Must be eligible for AL State Registration.
