Responsibilities

As an Accounting Technician (Pathways Intern) in the Collections and Compliance Division, you will:

Provide a variety of account maintenance and clerical/administrative support which requires a basic understanding of accounting systems, policies, and procedures.

Provide accounting support services such as: entering data into accounting systems, correcting invalid /incorrect entries, reviewing miscellaneous files and records for accuracy, reviewing various accounting records for accuracy, recommending corrective actions when appropriate.

Assist in the validation of premium payment account histories of defined benefit pension plans which includes the review of premium payments, required filings, adjustments, and other financial records and documentation.

Who May Apply This job is open to… This internship is for current PBGC students only who have recently been accepted in or are currently enrolled at least half-time in a degree seeking program at an accredited technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate, or professional school. Half-time is typically 6 semester hours but may be determined by the school.

* Provide proof of acceptance/current enrollment in a qualifying institution.
* Must have and maintain term and cumulative GPA requirements

EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position based on experience you must have at least one year of general experience at the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the private sector using automated systems and software to enter and extract data. Examples may include: creating documents in Microsoft Word, Excel or similar software applications; verifying and editing data; and sorting and formatting electronic documents or data.

As supporting documentation your resume must clearly support that you possess this experience.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position based on a combination of education and experience, your combination of education and the general experience above must total at least 100 percent. For instance, if you possess one full year of post-high school education (30 credit hours) and you possess 6 months of the experience listed above, your percentages will equal 100 percent. As supporting documentation you must submit transcripts which meet the requirements in the Required Documents section and your resume must clearly support that you possess this experience.

Qualifications

* Undergraduate students must have (and maintain) a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher or higher (or its equivalent) based on your school's academic requirements. You must provide proof of your school's academic requirement with your application if the requirement is less than 2.8.
* Graduate students and above must have (and maintain) a semester and cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) based on your school's academic requirements. You must provide proof of your school's academic requirement with your application if the requirement is less than 3.0.

(If your school uses an alternate grading system, you must submit proof of the grading system with your application or your application will not be considered.)

* You must be and remain in good academic standing (you must not be on academic probation).
* You must remain enrolled at least half-time in order to continue to be eligible for the Pathways Internship Program.
