Job Description:

  • Works under direct supervision and follows standard procedures to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Performs routine tasks in patient care and bedside nursing.
  • This position does provide direct patient care to geriatric residents.
  • To assist the Charge Nurse in safe administration of medications and treatments to Assisted Living residents.
  • Correctly administers non-injectable medications as ordered (unless trained to do injectables) and document accordingly.
  • To assist in all treatments in such a manner as to maintain the resident's dignity while establishing optimal levels of mental, physical and spiritual well-being.


1.Prepares, administers and documents all medications and treatments to residents in the Assisted Living per protocol.

2.Counts controlled drugs, keeping accurate records of such.

3.Keeps adequate supply of medications available for each resident.

4.Maintains clean and neat medication cart and medication room.

5.Practices aseptic techniques to prevent infection.

6.Remains knowledgeable about medication.

7.Obtains vital signs and weights as assigned.

8.Performs other assignments as delegated by the Charge Nurse or DON (Director of Nursing).

9.Assists residents with baths as assigned.

10.Makes residents' beds as assigned.

11.Assists residents as needed and/or as assigned by Charge Nurse.

12.Charts any unusual occurrences.

13.Reports all changes to Charge Nurse.

14.Delivers patient care with dignity and respect.

15.Answers pager promptly. Makes sure pager is working at start of each shift.

16.Attends and conducts in-services as scheduled.

17.Complies with attendance policy by reporting on time and not having excessive absences

18.Performs functions other than the above due to extenuating circumstances.

Required Qualifications


High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of drug administration program approved by the State. Current CMA or MAT certificate. Additional CNA certification preferred. Current CPR and First Aid training required.


At least one year experience in provision of healthcare. Previous experience in Assisted Living strongly preferred. Continuing Education: Must attend CPR and First Aide training per State regulations. Must attend 8 hours of CEUs annually that are state approved.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Must be able to learn and use medical terminology. Must be able to communicate and understand the English language. Must be able to work under stressful situations in dealing with the needs of the elderly. Must be able to take instructions and work as a team member. Highly developed interpersonal skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Clear and neat handwriting. Multi-tasked oriented. Ability to be on time for work. Works effectively under pressure and on short deadlines. Demonstrates effective organizational skills. Exhibits maturity and the ability to deal efficiently and professionally with residents and staff. Demonstrates a "customer first" approach to problem solving.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed inside with normal indoor lighting and controlled temperature. Outside exposure may be necessary in emergency situations. May require sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to see clearly.
