Job Description

Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the PEOPLE program in the Milwaukee service area, including the recruitment, hiring, training and supervising of full-time and part-time staff including Pre-College Advisors (PCA), Academic Leads, College Readiness Mentors, and other seasonal staff for the successful implementation of program activities and on the ground operations.

Ensures excellence in the delivery of program services and maintenance of external partnerships. Provides administrative oversite for school based after-school tutorial sites through regular site visits, analyzing student performance and achievement levels, and assisting staff with managing student issues that may arise.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required experience:

* At least two years in pre-college coordination and administration and/or implementation involving academic, social and cultural activities, workshops, seminars and/or group activities for urban youth. Two years' experience with programming for low-income and/or first generation secondary school and/or college students.

Preferred relevant work experience the ideal candidate will have:

* Knowledge of program development and implementation
* Grasp of issues affecting urban, low-income and minority school children
* Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills
* Organizational and event planning skills
* Ability to take the initiative and work independently
* Experience building teams
* Collaborative and consultative management style
* Experience coordinating a commuter and/or residential summer programs

* Knowledge of equity and diversity issues in educational settings

Additional Information:

Moderate travel to Madison required August - May, heavier travel required June and July, including some overnight stays. Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with UW-Madison policies and procedures. Evening and weekend work required for special events.

The PreCollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) is a college prep program designed to prepare Wisconsin residents for be successful at the UW- System institutions with an emphasis on UW-Madison. Our goal is to help students successfully make their transition in the educational pipeline: from precollege to degree completion. We offer comprehensive year-round college preparation services to first generation and low-income students in the state of Wisconsin, who are admitted to our program.

The general direction of this position is to provide supervision and leadership in the delivery of student services and achieve excellence in the day-to-day program operations.

The Coordinator will report directly to the Milwaukee PreCollege Assistant Director, In addition, the Coordinator will work collaboratively as part of the PEOPLE planning and implementation team under the oversight of the Director.
