The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont seeks applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in Education with scholarly interest in Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching and Learning, and/or Assessment, beginning in Fall, 2020. Preference will be given to candidates with an ability to teach in the College's Secondary Education program. We invite applications at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching in the college's undergraduate and graduate programs, conducting a research agenda with strong potential for extramural funding, and providing service to the college, university, and community.

The Department of Education is situated within the College of Education and Social Services. The Department

The Department of Education is widely recognized for its rigorous academic research, high-quality student experience, innovative teaching practices, and collegial, inclusive work environment. We offer undergraduate and graduate programs in preK - 12 educator preparation, curriculum and instruction, and special education, as well as undergraduate minors in computer science education, cultural and linguistic diversity, and coaching.

The Community

UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country and ranked the #1 college town by US News and World Report in 2019. Forbes magazine called Burlington a "Top 10 Tech Hub". The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on the shore of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. UVM is 220 miles to Boston and 285 miles to New York City. The surrounding area provides an environment rich in cultural, civic and recreational activities in the mountains and lakes. The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include:

* Maintaining an active research agenda, securing external funding, and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals;
* Teaching and advising in the undergraduate/graduate programs in the Department of Education, including Educator Preparation with a focus on Secondary Education;
* Collaborating with Department of Education faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, and scholarship and service;
* Serving as an active member of relevant scholarly societies and/or professional associations;
* Engaging in service and outreach activities at the college, university, regional, state, national and international levels.


* Earned doctorate in Education;
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice
* Record of publication commensurate with appointment at the rank of tenure-line assistant professor or tenure-line associate professor;
* Record of extramural funding commensurate with appointment at the rank of tenure-line assistant professor or tenure-line associate professor;
* Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level;
* Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills;
