The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont seeks applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in the area of Education Leadership and Policy Studies. with scholarly interest in Organizations, Leadership, Policy and/or Policy Analysis beginning in Fall, 2020. The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda, a strong record of peer-reviewed scholarship, and extramural support from relevant federal agencies and foundations. The occupant of this position will teach in the College's masters and doctoral programs and serve as coordinator of the Education Leadership and Policy Studies program. The Department of Leadership and Developmental Sciences is situated within the College of Education and Social Services. The Department of Leadership and Developmental Sciences

The Department of Leadership and Developmental Sciences offers an array of provocative courses of study leading to undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees, each designed to provide a transformative experience and to prepare graduates committed to transfiguring our schools and society. At the undergraduate level, we offer a program in Human Development and Family Studies, as well as a sequence of course work and a minor in American Sign Language and Deaf Cultures. Our four master's degree programs include Counseling (School and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Programs), Educational Leadership, Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration, and Interdisciplinary Studies. At the doctoral level, our program in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies offers two tracks that lead to the EdD and PhD degrees.

The Community

UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on the shore of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. The surrounding area provides an environment rich in cultural, civic and recreational activities. Vermont has a deep history of social activism and political participation. It offers many opportunities for collaborative partnerships in community and state-wide human service and social change organizations in multiple fields of practice, including state agencies.


The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that may include:

* Maintaining an active research agenda, securing extramural funding, and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals;
* Teaching and advising master and doctoral students in the Education Leadership and Policy Studies program;
* Coordinating key activities within the Education Leadership and Policy Studies program, including oversight of curriculum; student recruitment, admissions, and advising; and budget preparation and administration.
* Collaborating with Department faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, scholarship and service;
* Serving as an active member of relevant scholarly societies and/or professional associations;
* Engaging in service and outreach activities at the college, university, regional, state, national and international levels.


* Earned doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy Studies or in a closely related field;
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
* Record of publication commensurate with rank and sufficient for tenure at UVM;
* Record of external grant funding commensurate with rank and sufficient for tenure at UVM;
* Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level sufficient for tenure at UVM;
* Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills;
* Preference will be given to candidates with two years in rank at the level of associate professor and at least one year of relevant, successful administrative/leadership experience such as program coordinator or director.
