The Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center with the Department of Clinical Sciences at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking multiple scientific investigators to join our dynamic, productive Population Science and Cancer Control Program. We are particularly interested in applicants with innovative, independent, and collaborative research programs in tobacco control, molecular/cancer epidemiology, and cancer care delivery across the cancer control continuum. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in behavioral sciences, biological sciences, bioinformatics, biostatistics, communication, epidemiology, health services, psychology, or public health. Cancer Center Leadership supports considering interested and qualified senior investigators for leadership positions.

The Population Sciences and Cancer Control Program is one of six research programs in the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, which received NCI designation in 2010 and achieved Comprehensive status in 2015. Its 24 members from diverse disciplines (behavioral sciences, epidemiology, anthropology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, health services/outcomes) receive annual peer-reviewed funding of ~$8 million. Recently, the Program launched a cancer survivorship research initiative to understand and address needs of complex survivors with multiple co-morbidities.

The Department of Clinical Sciences, the academic home for cancer population researchers, includes Divisions of Behavioral and Communication Sciences, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Community Health Sciences, Epidemiology, and Outcomes and Health Services Research. The Department's 26 highly productive faculty members are assisted by ~60 research staff experienced in primary quantitative and qualitative data collection as well as analysis of big data in national surveillance, administrative claims, geospatial, sequencing, and high-throughput databases.

Population Science members and Department faculty have a robust research portfolio conducting large population-based observational and interventional studies using the comprehensive EMR of our University and public safety-net health. The goal of this faculty recruitment is to expand the positive impact of our research on the large, diverse, and rapidly growing population in our catchment area. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
