Additional Information

Purpose

Assist with ongoing and new research projects in the Britt lab at UT Austin with research topics pertaining to the function and development of the visual system using molecular and genetic approaches.

Essential Functions

Perform specific experiments with supervision. Maintain laboratory equipment, chemicals, stock solutions and supplies. Supervise other lab tech assistants, and train and assist post-docs and graduate students in specific techniques.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and at least 2 years experience in molecular biology and genetics. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work well with a culturally diverse group of faculty, staff, and students, including the willingness and ability to train and oversee undergraduate graduate students. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than 2 years experience in molecular biology and genetics at M.S. or Ph.D. level. Experience in molecular, cell and developmental biology techniques and Drosophila genetics.
