Do you have a healthcare and safety background? If so, check out our new opportunity as a Regulatory, Environmental Health and Safety Specialist with UPMC Corporate Services. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA but will travel to all UPMC hospitals as needed by the department.

The Regulatory, Environmental Health, and Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting the Director of System-wide Regulatory and Accreditation. They will serve as a resource and participate in ongoing assessments of compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Health, CMS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory agency regulations. They will also actively engage in system policy review related to safety and regulatory issues.

Responsibilities:

* Assist in activities related to Environmental Health & Safety programs at UPMC facilities, including monitoring and initiation of corrective actions in response to safety and/or regulatory concerns.
* Assist in situations which pose an immediate threat to the safety or health of persons or threat of damage to UPMC facilities.
* Assist with other tracer activities, including but not limited to Infection Control, Medication Management and other Joint Commission Chapters.
* Conduct safety compliance activities relating to the requirements of regulating bodies such as The Joint Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Health, CMS, Occupational Safety & Health Administration, Department of Environmental Protection, Environmental Protection Agency, Allegheny County, the City of Pittsburgh and others.
* Development, implementation and supervision of safety policies and programs aimed at improving the protection of facility occupants and assets.
* Participation in standing and ad hoc committees as required.
* Provide for on-going training/education of staff and serve as a resource to UPMC facilities.
* Respond to administrative requests for input on potential or actual safety concerns.
* The assembly, analysis, monitoring and initiation of corrective action on matters related to the areas of life safety, safety, hazardous materials and wastes, utility management, medical equipment, security and emergency preparedness; creation and presentation of safety-related reports, as required.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in a Safety Sciences or Safety Engineering is required; Masters degree is preferred.
* Three years of experience in environmental health and safety (preferably in a health care facility) is required.
* Familiarity with hospital administrative functions.
* Demonstrate skills to work with a variety of Microsoft office software systems.
* Ability to interact with senior leaders, physicians, and other health care providers positively.
* Facilitate and manage system wide meetings, including maintaining action plans.
* Ability to work independently within a changing environment

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CHSP (Certified Healthcare Safety Professional), ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) is preferred.
