DEPARTMENT

Biological Sciences

POSITION SUMMARY

We seek an instructor for anatomy and physiology and freshman biology courses in the Department of Biological Sciences who has excellent instruction, communication and management skills; The successful candidate has experience in developing and testing new laboratory exercises, the ability to effectively manage and communicate with students in high-enrollment classes using web-based course management programs, and experience with educational technology and academic assessment tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction and logistical support for students in Biological Sciences Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) I and II or Bios 1303, 1301, 1313 and 1311) lectures and labs and freshman biology courses for majors and non-majors (Bios 1083, 1073, 1053 and 1063). Prepare exam questions, related materials and coordinate grading in lectures and the associated laboratory sections; Play an active role in developing new methods of pedagogy to improve student success and retention in this and other STEM disciplines; Maintain class records, respond to course-related email, hold office hours for student consultation and maintain a course web site; Coordinate laboratory sections associated with the lecture in A&P I and II; train and supervise Teaching Assistants participating in these courses and coordinate their delivery of laboratory material. Successful candidate will work with advisors and staff from the local programs to coordinate the Anatomy and Physiology curriculum with the needs for their programs; Participate in departmental support and service activities. A period of evaluation will be required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in biological sciences/anatomy and physiology, or an appropriate related area required; A minimum of one year experience teaching experience is required and experience teaching anatomy and physiology courses is preferred. Excellent instruction, communication and management skills; Experience in developing and testing new laboratory exercises; Ability to effectively manage and communicate with students in high-enrollment classes using web-based course management programs; Experience with educational technology and academic assessment tools.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral degree in biological sciences or anatomy and physiology preferred.

SALARY

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
