UNM's Department of Communication and Journalism anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate level courses in the Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Fall 2019 Semesters. Anticipated openings potentially include the following subject areas, among others:

* Introduction to Mass Communication

* Media Theories

* History of Media

* Media Criticism

* Media Theory and Research

* Media Management

* Media Ethics and Law

* Introduction to Media Writing

* Multimedia Visual Communication

* Writing and Editing for Multimedia Journalism

* Web Design

* Interviewing

* Video Journalism

* Photojournalism

* Audio Journalism

* Magazine Writing

* Design and Visual Presentation

* Intermediate Reporting

* Multimedia Production

* Advanced Multimedia Journalism

* Introduction to Strategic Communication

* Creative Concepts

* Strategic Writing

* Strategic Social Media

* Strategic Planning and Campaign Development

Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching, including but not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the Chair of the department.


Minimum Qualifications:

To teach courses as described above, applicants must meet the Higher Learning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met in one of the two following ways:

Ability to demonstrate tested experience (Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of professional experience in the discipline or sub field for which you are applying) that Communication and Journalism has determined to be equivalent to a Master's degree in the discipline or subfield


Bachelor's degree or higher in a discipline related to but other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.

Preferred Qualifications:

* An earned master's degree in multimedia journalism, strategic communication, media studies, or a related field from an accredited institution.

* Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.

* A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

* Recent or current affiliation with or employment by professional multimedia journalism or strategic communication organizations in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe metropolitan area. Such affiliation, which must be referenced in your cover letter and CV, can be either as a freelance or permanent employee for New Mexico-based media entities such as (but not limited to) the Albuquerque Journal, the Santa Fe New Mexican, New Mexico PBS, KUNM, commercial television or radio stations, city- or state-focused magazines, or local advertising/marketing, public relations, or social/digital media, agencies.
