Job Description

UNM Economics Assistant or Associate Professor Faculty Position

The Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are an applied economics department with a flexible working environment. We seek applicants with a Ph.D. in economics, energy economics, or a closely related field with demonstrated research interests in electricity and energy economics, and ability to collaborate on interdisciplinary research with engineering.

This faculty hire will be an integral part of the New Mexico National Science Foundation (NSF) award "The New Mexico SMART Grid Center." This statewide, five-year, $24 million NSF-funded project, includes collaboration with other academic institutions and two national laboratories. The successful candidate will also be presented opportunities to participate in mentoring and training.

The department, home to 17 tenure/tenure-track faculty, and 3 lecturers, is committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education with over 120 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students. A hallmark of the department is resource and environmental economics research, including energy. Our faculty excels at tackling some of the most pressing problems in the world including energy, climate change, environment, health, education, poverty, and sustainable development. Our intra- and interdisciplinary research includes sustained collaborations across campus and with national laboratories.

The departmental course load is normally two courses per semester. The department offers Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. degrees in economics and has particular strengths in resource and environmental economics.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for the position are:

* PhD in economics, energy economics or related field by date of appointment (August 2020).
* Demonstrated research interests in electricity and energy economics.
* Demonstrated interests or abilities to collaborate on interdisciplinary research with engineering.

* Demonstrated potential to generate externally supported research funding;

* Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
