Job Description

Primary duties of the Land Management Specialist include, but are not limited to, (1) land management activities (e.g. mowing, prescribed burning, habitat restoration, seed collection, and non-native species control) at Glacier Creek Preserve, T.L. Davis Prairie, and other organizations with which the Preserve has cooperative agreements, (2) maintenance and improvement of the physical resources associated with land management (e.g. equipment, vehicles, fencing, structures), and (3) assistance with other preserve activities as directed by the Preserves Director. The Land Management Specialist also serves as Resident Caretaker, The Resident Caretaker is required to live in the house provided at Glacier Creek Preserve and, in return, is responsible for observing and, when necessary, addressing issues that require attention at the Preserve. Manages the physical resources of the Preserve except The Barn @ Glacier Creek. Duties of the Land Management Specialist include, but are not limited to, fencing, mowing, snow removal (roads and parking lot), woody plant control, habitat restoration, and noxious weed control. At various times these duties may be assisted by volunteers (e.g. 1-3 Preserve Interns, 1-2 Work-Study students, or from 1-10 volunteers of various ages and experience). Grounds maintenance is coordinated with the Outreach & Administrative Specialist to ensure complete coverage of the headquarters area. Grounds are defined as the general area around all Preserve structures and along roads, including planted gardens and lawns.
