Job Summary

The Department of Cell & Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan Medical School (Ann Arbor) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Bioinformatician-Computational Biologist Associate/Intermediate. This is a full-time position, where the selected candidate will serve as a departmental Bioinformatics resource working with multiple faculty and trainees within the department. We are particularly interested in hiring an individual with demonstrated expertise in analyzing high-throughput molecular data sets (e.g., tissue and single cell transcriptomics, and proteomics). Responsibilities*

* Assess and analyze needs of department customers, including developing appropriate protocols, writing reports, and delivering results to the customer.
* Develop a knowledge for biological problems being investigated in the department and of the computational tools best suited to their study
* Guide PIs and trainees in department on bioinformatics analyses
* Communicate with PIs and trainees before, during and after analysis to educate and ensure the customer has an accurate understating of both the data and the analysis
* Prepare summary presentations of the results (e.g., methods, data quality, biological interpretation, graphics) suitable for publication
* Continue professional development by regularly reviewing bioinformatics literature, learning new methods, skills, and techniques in bioinformatics

Required Qualifications*

* Associate: Bachelor of Science degree and three years of experience or a Master of Science degree and 0-3 years of experience.
* Intermediate: Master of Science degree and three years of experience or PhD.
* Experience analyzing high throughput data
* Excellent organizational and time management skills
* Experience building reproducible scientific workflows
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Demonstrated customer service experience including contribution to the completion of project goals in a timely manner
* Familiarity with a range of publicly available bioinformatics resources, file formats, and tools and have mastery of one or more scripting/programming languages (Python and R preferred)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment are required

Desired Qualifications*

* Ph.D. or equivalent experience in an applicable field is strongly preferred
* Experience with a subset of genomics data or single cell analysis.
* Laboratory research experience in a life science domain
