60% - Student Services

* Use professional ethics, implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the summer component and supervise students to ensure safety and well-being, Monday-Thursday, 7:30am-5:00pm.
* Walk students to and from residence halls, dining hall and various campus buildings/classrooms across KU campus.
* Must transport (i.e walking/driving in personal vehicle) students who are ill/hurt to and from residence halls, dining hall and various campus buildings/classrooms to Watkins Health Services on KU campus as needed.
* Maintain a binder with program forms (e.g. attendance sheets, class schedules, SFSP meal log, medical forms and medical claims forms, etc). Binder must be in their possession throughout the day.
* Assist in planning, organizing and implementing recreational, social, and cultural activities, and maintain discipline and harmonious relations in the residence hall, campus buildings/classrooms, and all other areas of the program activities; participate in all program recreational activities, field trips and residential life, and conduct required workshops for participants as needed.
* Oversee the physical maintenance of residence hall/Dining Common area as it pertains to Upward Bound Non Bridge students.
* Assist Residence Hall Staff with the First Day Orientation/Move-in (this involves establishing procedures for key assignment and collection; prevention of abuse of furniture, lounges, and rooms; with checking the condition of rooms before and if needed, after Upward Bound students occupancy)
* Provide support to students in personal, social, and academic areas.
* Supervise students in the residence hall/classrooms during silent study hall hours and assist with the Summer Food Service Program during meals.
* Serve as a liaison between administration and residence hall staff.
* Create proper environment for both students and staff; Manage health problems and medical emergencies for students.
* Perform other duties as assigned by Residence Hall Director or Assistant Directors

40% - Student Records Management, Tracking, and Program Guidance

* Maintain confidentiality of participant information learned while completing job responsibilities
* Assess any residence hall problems, assimilate facts, process viewpoints and make decisions in compliance with program guidelines.
* Maintain comprehensive and accurate records and documentation regarding participant contacts, activities, and attendance
* Monitor and evaluate students' academic and social progress; see that students are up in the morning and prepared for class and make regular classroom visits
* Compile, prepare/submit attendance sheet and SFSP forms in a timely manner to Residence Hall Director/Program Assistant Director
* Document student's illness by completing medical claims forms for participants who are ill and visit the walk-in clinic at Watkins Health Services on KU campus. Must escort students to and from Watkins Health Services when students are ill.
* Provide effective and open lines of communications with Assistant Directors, Residential Hall Staff, program staff, and university and community partners to ensure a positive work environment
* Participate in staff orientation and attend all staff meetings

Required Qualifications

* Experience working with High School students
* Completed at least one year of college

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with culturally diverse high school students
* Experience with conflict resolution
* Tutoring experience
* Experience coordinating and supervising group living experiences in a team focused work environment
* Have effective oral and written communication skills
* Possess good organizational skills
* Must have high level of maturity; be self-disciplined and able to work on a team
* Previous TRIO (E.g. Upward Bound) Program experience
* Familiarity with college residence hall policies and procedures
* Valid driver's license
* At least six months prior supervisory experience
