Job Description

Stationary Engineer Operator 1, Apprentice

Facilities Management

Under the direct supervision of the Industrial Steam Plant Manager, Industrial Chilled Water Plant Manager, and/or Stationary Engineer Operator I and II’s, the Stationary Engineer Operator I/Apprentice operates or maintains stationary engines, boilers, or other mechanical equipment to provide utilities for buildings or industrial processes. Operate equipment, such as steam engines, generators, motors, turbines, and steam boilers.

Specific duties include:

Assisting with the safe operation, light maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of high pressure gas and wood fired boilers, chilled water systems, air compressor systems, wood handling systems, ash handling systems, steam/condensate distribution systems, and associated mechanical/electrical systems in the Energy Plant. Also assisting with chemical analysis, troubleshooting and proper water testing and treatment. Performing water testing on boiler, condensate, feed water, zeolite inlet and outlet, and filters inlet water. Responding to afterhours, emergency phone calls from the public and calls out campus personnel to deal with problems. Must be able to work in confined spaces, dirt, and extreme temperatures. Maintain adherence to plant required career path. Handle stress, extreme conditions, and make critical decisions with minimal supervision.
