Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the lead web developer on UH STAR projects. Conceptualize and develop innovative and strategically sound web interface architecture, using JSP, JavaScript, AJAX, CSS and PHP.

Work with the STAR development team to identify, architect and implement the strategic intent of the STAR projects.

Communicate and oversee the consistency of web design parameters, style guides and visual standards to meet UH web standards.

Create and maintain the architecture and function of the web applications to achieve the highest quality possible within the technical limitations.

Act as an upper level support staff for the STAR system software applications by having up to date knowledge of each STAR application, how to support these applications, what each aspect of the software is designed to do and how they interconnect.

Process artistic and technical feedback in a timely manner based on the unique design parameters of the Web application.

Provide leadership in integrating new Internet and web technologies.

Provide technical consulting on the implementation and application of selected hardware and software.

Work closely with appropriate parties on areas that pertain to security and sensitive and confidential data.

Assists in the development of training materials for the web applications.

Assists in training stakeholders in the use of the web application.

Minimum Qualifications

As typically acquired/evidenced by pertinent baccalaureate educational degree and 1 year of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for Dynamic Web applications, utilizing Java technologies; possession of the following competencies in technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills

Functional knowledge of web development technologies demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.

Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with web applications.

Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.

Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.

Demonstrated ability in programming languages like Java, JavaScript and SQL.

Functional knowledge of web and interface development that rely on complex backend SQL databases and business logic.

Functional knowledge of Web development principles including the technologies such as JSTL, JSP, PHP, AJAX, HTML, CSS.

Functional knowledge of maintaining and managing Tomcat and Word-Press servers.

Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, present and implement ideas.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a group of dedicated team members with a passion to work.

Functional knowledge of the use of SQL profilers and the associated trace files.

Demonstrated ability to develop concise, structured programs and conduct thorough testing.

Working Knowledge of Student Information Systems.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

Desirable Qualifications

Working knowledge of one or more relational database systems, such as Oracle or MSSQL server.

Working knowledge of Windows Server, Linux and MAC operating systems.

Working knowledge of Adobe desktop publishing software.
