Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as a technical support person in the provision of all computer technical support and services campus wide.

Installs and troubleshoots hardware and software problems for faculty, staff, and students.

Performs problem resolution on Intel-based and Apple hardware and software problems including operating system (OS), file operations, local and network printing.

Performs problem resolution on local area network (LAN) problems for supported network application.

Assists departmental system administrators with technical problems such as installation, configuration, management, and maintenance.

Learns new technologies, systems, software, and equipment needed to stay current, perform duties, and advises users especially in area of specialties.

Primary technical person providing support for escalated UHMC Help desk tickets.

Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and assure timely equipment security and virus updates.

Serve as the secondary contact for Outreach Center networking problems, including WAN, Internet and HITS difficulties.

Assists with training outreach staff in the use of new software and equipment.

Assists with start of semester operations working with faculty and/or departmental secretaries to ensure classroom computer lab software environments are ready for classes.

Minimum Qualifications

As typically acquired/evidenced by pertinent baccalaureate educational degree and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for enterprise computer and network support; possession of the following competencies in technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills:

Functional knowledge of Information Technology demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.

Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with the infrastructure in an academic environment.

Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.

Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

Able to lift 50lbs.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience in providing end-user support in an academic environment.

Work experience in providing end-user support for Windows and OS X desktop operating systems.

Work experience in troubleshooting and resolving network LAN and WLAN issues.

Experience in the installation and configuration of computer and network hardware and a enterprise computing environment.

Experience in providing exceptional technical support to a broad community of end-users.

Keeps abreast of the new and emerging technologies.
