The College of Medicine, Department of Environmental Health, Division of Occupational Hygiene, is looking for a full time faculty member. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.


Job Summary:    The Department of Environmental Health invites applications for a faculty position in Environmental and Industrial Hygiene (EIH) at the level of Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor.


The department has a rich history and tradition in EIH, and consistently ranks among the best in the nation with a research oriented and interactive faculty.  The appointee can anticipate the opportunity to become a member of several state-of-the-art research centers, including a NIOSH-funded Education and Research Center (ERC), and NIEHS-funded:  Center for Environmental Genetics; Gene-Environment Training Grant; and Pediatric Epidemiology Training Grant. The EIH division provides training for both master's and doctoral level students, and is fully accredited by ABET.


Industrial Hygiene faculty members in the department have established research in exposure assessment and control, ergonomics, aerosol physics, bio-aerosols, biological monitoring and toxicology; and works with faculty within the departments other five divisions: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics; Environmental Genetics and Molecular Toxicology; Epidemiology;  Occupational Medicine; and Public Health. Interactions with researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, as well as NIOSH and the US EPA all of which have major laboratory facilities nearby are common and encouraged.


Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and the successful candidate can anticipate a competitive start up package.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or other doctorate in industrial hygiene or relevant science or engineering
  • CIH or eligibility for CIH certification within one year is also required
  • A record of original research related to epidemiology, environmental health and preventive medicine in human populations


Preferred Qualifications:    Successful candidates will have publications in the peer-reviewed literature, demonstrated teaching ability, as well as demonstrated outstanding research productivity or promise. The successful applicant will be expected to teach graduate courses in their area of expertise, direct graduate thesis research, and develop an extramurally-funded research program.
