Departmental Overview

Communications and Public Affairs

As the first point of contact for most visitors-online and offline-we tell the Berkeley story to inspire audiences and elevate the image of the university. We partner closely with various campus audiences-from the Chancellor, deans and faculty members, to staff, students and alumni-as well as external media organizations who can amplify Berkeley's important contributions across a wide range of subjects.

Responsibilities

50%-Assist with projects to maintain and develop main Gateway site, to adapt new technology and newly added features and to comply with ADA requirements and changing campus IT requirements.
25%-Revise news and home page files as needed to display properly and optimize availability via searches.
25%-Assist web team in creating architecture for and producing new sites as needed (e.g. Visitor Services, revised emergency.berkeley.edu site, etc. site). Produce new sites, based on designs created by Public Affairs team.

Required Qualifications

- Advanced skill in developing electronic communications aimed at achieving strategic goals.
- Advanced skill in creating clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, and highly functional web sites.
- Advanced knowledge of electronic communication media, including applications used for website production.
- Advanced technical skills and knowledge of computer applications for web production, multimedia, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and/or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities. Advanced understanding of HTML source code.
- Advanced knowledge of various web platforms and code requirements for optimal viewing on all platforms; advanced understanding of website development to meet accessibility requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of web design, information architecture, and campus visual design style and resources.
- Understanding of campus processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced creative setting, under tight deadlines and with competing priorities.
- Proven effectiveness in working on teams.
- Advanced skills to monitor and assess processes and make necessary improvements.
- Knowledge of the campus, including its goals, objectives, vision and mission, and how electronic communications can effectively convey and advance the campus message to various audiences.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to set priorities and see projects through from inception to completion.
- Ability to recognize, avoid, and resolve problems.
- Experience working with writers, photographers, and multimedia specialists.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with WordPress or ExpressionEngine CMS development and administration, including theme customization

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000 Annually
