Departmental Overview

The Student Affairs - Information Technologies (SAIT) department provides, manages, and supports all information and computing services and technology for the Student Affairs Cluster, with the exception of the Lawrence Hall of Science. This includes support for the Student Affairs Divisional Offices, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, the Financial Aid Office, the Dean of Students Office, Associated Students of the University of California, the Career Center, and Residential and Student Service Programs [RSSP].

Student Affairs IT is seeking an experienced Applications Programmer for a 2-year contract position.

Responsibilities

- Analyzes existing programs or works to formulate logic for new systems, devises logic procedures, prepares flowcharting, performs coding, data analysis, and tests/debugs programs through the application of professional programming concepts. May be primarily responsible for maintaining a specific module, such as Work study, Scholarship, Summer Session, Check Tracking, Cancel Withdraw, ImageNow, Direct Loan, Cal Grant, DSAS, ELM, ACG/SMART, Sigma programs for Financial Aid, CARS, PAYROLL and REG interface, Quality Assurance, Scholarships, Summer Session, Bulk Email, Student Aid Management reports.
- Designs, develops, modifies, debugs and evaluates complex programs for functional areas. Develop and execute moderately complex test plans.
- Provides analysis for the design and use complex relational databases
- Gathers, analyzes, prepares, and summarizes business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary. Creates complex specifications for systems to meet user requirements. Participates in cross-functional teams to solve complex business or systems issues.
- Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for approval of system and programming documentation.
- Recommends and implements changes in development, maintenance and system standards.
- Develops a professional development plan and participates in development activities, such as attending classes, joining organizations, working on special projects, and serving on departmental or campus-wide committees, in order to enhance expertise in job areas.

Required Qualifications

- Requires thorough knowledge of applications programming function.
- Knowledge relating to installation, modification, and support of networked systems, databases, servers, and security systems.
- Must have knowledge relating to the design and development of applications programs across the organization.
- Requires knowledge of other related areas of IT.
- Knowledge of department processes and procedures.
- Requires advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation.
- Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
- Has skills needed to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
- Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Requires ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs.
- Ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs. Knowledge of business analysis function.
- Has ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
- Must be self-motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
- Must have advanced skills in web applications, web programming language and object oriented programming concepts.
- Background check required.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications

Driving is preferred. If driving, a DMV background check for driving record and valid driver's license is required.
