Position Information

PLEASE NOTE: UC Riverside career employees who have passed their probationary period will receive priority consideration for this position. UC Riverside's Auxiliary Services is currently recruiting for an HR and Payroll Coordinator to support our approximately 280 career staff and 800 student staff. The HR and Payroll Coordinator will perform duties related to human resources, leaves of absence, payroll, and departmental on-boarding and off-boarding activities. The HR and Payroll Coordinator works collaboratively as part of a team, interacts with personnel at all levels of the organization, and provides a high level of customer service and professionalism. The HR and Payroll Coordinator will ensure the timely flow of information and process transactions related to personnel data changes, appointment changes, payroll, medical leaves, and benefits by collaborating with various campus partners, including Shared Services, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) office, Central Human Resources, and UCPath. The HR and Payroll Coordinator will provide information to employees and management related human resources and payroll processes. The HR and Payroll Coordinator will be responsible for a variety of data management, tracking, and reporting of payroll, medical, and personnel records.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma, plus five (5) years of related experience with at least two (2) years of experience providing payroll support, or equivalent (e.g. Bachelor's degree plus one (1) year of related experience).

Demonstrated and recent progressively responsible experience in personnel/payroll administration for a large number of employees with occupational diversity.

Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of human resources principles and practices, including knowledge of workers' compensation law and information requirements, provisions of the FMLA, disability insurance benefits and administration, and implementation of transitional return to work programs.

Knowledge and skill using Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with developing and maintaining simple to moderately complex reports through data entry, data queries, and database design modifications.

Demonstrated skill in operational analysis, including analytical skills to review, research, and recommend changes to programs, procedures, or policies.

Skill and experience independently creating clear and concise written communication that is grammatically and punctually correct. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Skill and experience working in a team environment. Ability to share knowledge with others; develop and maintain effective, professional, and collaborative working relationships with colleagues; and proven ability to partner with others to solve problems, improve processes, and achieve results that support the operations and mission of the department.

Skill and experience serving a diverse client base. Ability to promote and sustain a work culture that acknowledges and celebrates differences; ability to understand and acknowledge different perspectives; and work to build a culture of mutual respect, fairness, and equity.

Ability to sit, walk, and stand for variable periods. Ability to use computer, keyboard, telephone and other office equipment. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, lift, carry objects such as boxes of materials and office supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.

Hired candidate must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI prior to appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Four years (4) years of experience supporting HR and payroll activities within a higher education setting.

Skill and experience with UCR systems, including ServiceLink, UCPath/Peoplesoft payroll system, Time and Attendance Reporting System (TARS), HRDW, SuperDope, Enterprise Directory, and EFR.

Knowledge of the pay related provisions contained within UC and UCR policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.

Skill in organizing and prioritizing workload to meet deadlines with frequent interruptions.

Experience working in an environment with multiple collective bargaining agreements.

Strong counseling skills as demonstrated by a pronounced sensitivity to the needs of employees and the ability to resolve conflicts and defuse emotionally-charged situations.
