Requisition Number:29814 Job Title:PROGRAM REPRESENTATIVE I Working Title:Initial Intake Advisor Salary:$17.10 - $33.90 hourly Job Type:Contract Department Name:4815-DASHEW CTR FOR INT'L STUDENTS & SCHOLARS Department Website URL:www.internationalcenter.ucla.edu Job Summary Statement:Serve as initial intake advisor for office visits of non-immigrant students and scholars; provide initial advising for students and scholars on reporting requirements, policies and procedure necessary for compliance with visa and academic requirements; and manage the operation of the intake unit in collaboration with the supervisor.

The initial intake advisor also supports the international student (F-1) unit on visa matters for non-immigrant students visa status; reviews technical aspects of the visa for accuracy, completeness and compliance; conducts check-in sessions, seminars, workshops and perform visa system maintenance.

The initial intake advisor will also serve as a back-up Bruin-Buy preparer. Percentage of Time:100% Shift Start:8:00 am Shift End:5:00 pmQualifications for Position

14Records QualificationsRequired/Preferred

Working knowledge of governmental regulations affecting non-immigrant students and scholars on F-1, J-1 and H-1 visas, in order to screen forms for accuracy and completeness, and to inform students, scholars, and departments of necessary changes.


General knowledge of University services pertaining to non-immigrant students and scholars and U.S. citizens interested in international activities.


General knowledge of UCLA university policies, procedures and campus resources for students and scholars.


Ability to work with a high degree of independence and to follow through with minimal direction.


Ability to write and speak using proper English grammar and vocabulary to communicate effectively with clients. Verbal and writing skills necessary for understanding, explaining, and insuring compliance with government and university regulations and procedures.


Demonstrated ability to write creatively in preparation of guidelines, handbooks, and other forms of communication materials. To prepare materials for public presentations and formal administrative reports.


Ability to work with complex business processes (e.g. current intake procedures) and propose more effective/efficient options utilizing technology.


Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively with clients of diverse language, cultural, and professional backgrounds.


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and scholars of many different cultures.


Excellent knowledge of computer systems and skill using Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, database management, spreadsheets, and electronic mail applications.


Demonstrated skill in maintaining paper and computerized filing systems, and statistical data.


Ability to answer routine questions, handle basic requests, and make appropriate referrals.


Knowledge of foreign language(s) and/or international living experiences as desirable.


Bilingual is a plus.
