Job Description

Under direction and supervision of the Communications Director, develop and execute strategic communication and marketing programs aimed at communicating effectively with faculty, staff, students, community partners and other audiences to raise awareness and adoption of Vice Chancellor priority programs. The communication manager will independently and cooperatively research, plan and implement strategies that communication objectives, in collaboration with colleagues and related university staff.

Physical Demands:

Sit at a computer/workstation and stare at display monitors for extended periods of time working with a computer/mouse.

Lift and maneuver boxes of paper and files weighing up to 20 lbs - hand cart available.

Work Environment:

Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.

Work flexible schedule including occasional events and weekends to meet operational needs. Occassional travel to off-campus meetings and events, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience in a communication/marketing role for a complex organization that involved gathering information, interviewing stakeholders (for video/audio/print), writing and/or producing materials, copy editing, story-telling, planning and executing communication strategies, and presenting information to the public in advertising, print, electronic, web and interactive formats.

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Liberal Arts, Communications, or a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience conceptualizing and developing communication and marketing strategies for diverse audiences.

Knowledge of Supply Chain Management functions, including procurement, contracting, accounts payable, distribution, travel & entertainment, and strategic sourcing.

Experience with internal employee communication and the use of strategies that engage employee, including knowledge of employee-based health and wellness initiatives.

Experience developing content in a variety of formats including multiple page publications, feature articles, web content, print advertisements, TV and radio.

Strong skill to produce video content, including shooting and editing on Adobe Premiere Pro or similar software, pre-production coordination, vendor alignment, budgeting, production management and post-production coordination.

Strong communication skills to present to, advise and persuade clients on the use of proven communication strategies.

Exceptional project management, interpersonal and communication skills; skill to work in a collaborative environment with other creative team members including other writers, designers and web specialists.

Skill and flexibility to successfully handle multiple projects, shifting priorities in an extremely fast-paced, deadline-oriented office.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Experience in higher education-related communications.

Knowledge of lighting techniques and sound design.

Experience with building and editing web content within the UC Davis SiteFarm content management system.
