Job Description

This is a 50-75% Career position for one year with the possibility of extension. Incumbent must be available to work up to 75% time as necessary.

Under general supervision, undertake research projects in collaboration with academic supervisor, making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory experimental procedures involving membrane transporters and measuring pollutants in fish. Perform DNA isolation, PCR, and enzyme assays necessary for analysis of drug transporters. Construct and test pollutant sensor chips. Independently and in collaboration with PI, interpret data and make determinations to present results. Complete written reports of experimental methods. Contribute to publications. Assist with lab management; assisting students, keeping lab organized, and helping with equipment maintenance.


* Biochemistry and toxicology background. Theoretical knowledge of enzymology and drug transporters.
* Demonstrated experience with DNA isolation, enzyme assays, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
* In-depth knowledge of and experience in Structural Biology, Microinjection, Mass Spectrometry, and ATPase assays.
* Demonstrated experience with confocal microscopy and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
* Excellent computer and data management skills.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the biochemistry of membrane proteins.
* Familiar with enzyme assays used for drug transporter analysis.
* Knowledge of and experience with lab safety. Knowledge of chemical regulations needed for safe handling and storage of chemicals. Demonstrated ability of safely handling persistent organic pollutants.
* Good communication skills. Good writing skills.
* Demonstrated skill and experience in writing and editing material for publications.
* Experience in making significant contributions to research projects. Demonstrated skill in problem solving and critical thinking.
