Title Manager, Communications and Media Relations (University of Arizona Health Sciences) Department Senior VP Health Sciences (6801) Location UAHS - Tucson Position Summary

The University of Arizona Health Sciences is seeking a highly qualified communications professional for the role of Manager, Communications and Media Relations. The successful candidate will join the Office of Communications on the UArizona Health Sciences Campus in Tucson, Arizona.

The Manager, Communications and Media Relations will serve a key role in planning and developing general content and related media relations that support the Health Sciences' educational and research objectives. He or she will ensure communications and media relations activities are coordinated as needed with the Health Sciences' five colleges and multiple centers in Tucson and Phoenix, its Banner Health clinical partner, and the University of Arizona main campus

The University of Arizona is in the process of creating a new classification and compensation architecture. Duties & Responsibilities

* Cultivate strong relationships with local, state, regional and national news media to promote Health Sciences research, education and clinical breakthroughs, significant advancements and other top stories. Maintain and nurture relationships with reporters, editors, assignment editors, producers, executive producers, etc.
* Develop, produce and distribute through multiple channels a variety of compelling general content that keeps the Health Sciences, its programs and its educational and research achievements "top of mind" among key external audiences.
* Assist in pitching, editing and distributing general media advisories, news releases, calendar items and other UAHS-related materials. Ensure close collaboration in content development/distribution with other teams in the Office of Communications.
* Provide issues management/crisis communications expertise during critical incidents, emergencies and large-scale events.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with faculty members and others. Provide media relations training to groups and individuals, as needed or requested.

* Demonstrated ability to develop content across digital, social and traditional media platforms for general audiences and news media.
* Ability to communicate direction from leadership and articulates impact on staff work objectives.
* Ability to review effectiveness and makes necessary adjustments to programs, projects or systems within own function.
* Knowledge and understanding of operations in a program or functional area.

* A record of personal and professional integrity with a work style that promotes creativity, teamwork and strategic thinking.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
* Experience working in professional news media outlet(s).
* Experience working in a public university.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working in an academic medical center.
