Job Description

El Paso Behavioral Health System is currently looking for an Assessment Counselor. (PRN; 7A-7P / 7P-7A; Weekend & Night Shifts Available) to join our Admissions Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following: performing intake assessments, crisis intervention and providing information over the hospital's services to patients. The Assessment Counselor is also responsible for providing patients who do not meet criteria for admission with referrals to community resources to ensure continuity of care. Assessment Counselor will assist with call center functions and other duties to support the needs of the Psych E.D.

El Paso Behavioral Health System is a private 166-bed psychiatric hospital located in El Paso, Texas, specializing in mental health and chemical dependency care. Our inpatient and day hospital, or outpatient, services offer supportive and compassionate care through specialty programs that are tailored to meet the needs of our patients.

Job Requirements

The following are the job requirements for the Assessment Counselor position:

Education: Master's Degree in a human relations field or Registered Nurse.

Experience: Preferably two or more years' experience in intake assessment activities within an acute psychiatric setting. A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a psychiatric hospital setting including customer contact and crisis intervention highly preferred.

Licensure: Licensed to practice in the State of Texas as a mental health professional (LPC, LPC-Intern, LMSW, or LCSW) or registered nurse (RN).

Additional Requirements: A working knowledge of the DSM-V and the Mental Status Exam. A working knowledge of the Addiction and Recovery field. Successful completion of Handle With Care Training upon hire. Must have and maintain current CPR Certification. May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
